My advocate partner and good friend, Melba Tan has recently completed the fund-raiser for assistance to her hometown on the Northern part of Cebu. You can read the blog post here to have an idea of what I am talking about. You caring was a very useful tool in sending the message out to those who wanted to help by donating much of their hard-earned money. This blog can be useful especially to those who have donated, whereby they can see how their money has been put to good use without fear of not reaching any recipients.
After doing an initial visit to Libertad in Daan Bantayan, we have opted to start offering help by fixing an artesian well. The visit with the Barangay Captain (small community chariman) convinced us that having this well up and running would greatly improve the situation of his constituents. My staff departed with the assurance that we would receive further communication on the materials needed to begin the phases of the work. Days turned into weeks, and the weeks into a month before we received the following photo via facebook.
The translation of the above stated document which was sent to us by a relative of the Barangay Chairman means they will be needing the following materials:
1. 14 pcs rad coupling
2. 4 pcs GI coupling
3. 5 pcs Teflon
4. 5 sacks cement
5. 18 sacks of fine sand
6. Manual Labor cost of 2,000
After being raged by another typhoon, there were continuous rains here in Cagayan de Oro City for 2 weeks which caused me my internet connection and few challenges with stranded visitors in the City since most flights were cancelled. We are now ready to have an official quotation ot the above-mentioned materials so that we could have them procured and have work begin on the site.
On my next article, I will post the cost of the materials and other related stuff to provide accountability and transparency to this worthwhile endeavor.
You can further support this blog by checking some of the advertisements by sponsors, if you are interested to see what they have to offer.
